Enter 2009 to the sound of Grandfather’s clock!
You might have heard about it before, and I’m here to attest to such common wisdom: Time is of the essence. That’s something that becomes quite apparent today, as we get ready to embrace the new year of 2009. All across the country, all around the world, everybody is getting ready for the final countdown. Whatever your favored time-tracking device might be (digital clock, atomic clock, wristwatch), there’s a good chance you’re adjusting it in anticipation of the first seconds of the forthcoming year.

Myself, I’ll be spending midnight with family, same as usual. And as far as time-tracking is concerned, we’ll be popping our bottles of champagne to the sound of the family’s ominous grandfather clock, of course! I have fond memories of many new year’s eve in my parent’s home, where the old big clock standing in the living room will officially dictate the beggining of each year, with its impressive clockwork chimes and melodies.

There’s something about this kind of Grandfather Clock that’s just SO incredibly cool, I can’t even wrap my mind around it. In my opinion, no living room in a family house could ever be complete without one; in fact, I must confess it’s one of the things I tend to curiously look around for, everytime I visit a home I haven’t been to. I have even thought about taking pictures of several grandfather clocks I come across, but I’m afraid that would strike people as weird. What do you think about that?
